Definition of «sparkling wine»

Sparkling wine is a type of wine that has bubbles in it due to the presence of carbon dioxide. It is also known as champagne, prosecco or cava depending on where it comes from. Sparkling wines are usually made through a process called "méthode traditionnelle" which involves adding sugar and yeast to the wine to create alcohol and carbon dioxide gas. The gas is then trapped in the bottle using a crown cap, creating pressure that causes the bubbles we associate with sparkling wine.
